Domainatrix provides a comprehensive set of features for managing, monitoring, and diagnosing your domain names. Here is a detailed look at how to use these tools.
1. Dashboard & Analytics
The main dashboard is designed to give you a birds-eye view of your domain portfolio. It highlights key metrics and potential issues so you can take action before a domain or SSL certificate expires.
Expiry Timeline
At the center of the dashboard is the 12-Month Expiry Timeline. This is a custom, interactive visual timeline that maps out all of your domains by their expiration dates over the coming year.
- Domains expiring within 30 days are highlighted in red.
- Domains expiring within 30–60 days are highlighted in orange.
- Domains with longer lifetimes are shown in green or gray.
Risk & Cost Cards
The top of the dashboard displays key summary metrics:
- Annual Cost: The sum of all domain renewal costs for the year (helping you budget).
- Missing Expiry: Alerting you to domains whose expiry dates are currently unknown or haven't been fetched yet.
- SSL Expiring: The number of domains with SSL certificates expiring within 30 days.
- Auto-Renew Disabled: A count of domains that will not automatically renew, which could lead to accidental expiration.
- Notification Coverage: The percentage of domains that have active notifications configured.
2. Domain Inventory
The Domains page allows you to view, search, and manage your portfolio. You can toggle between a dense list view or a rich card grid.
Search & Advanced Filtering
- Fuzzy Search: Instantly filter your domains by name or registrar.
- Status Filters: Filter domains by their health status (Active, Warn, Error, or Untracked).
- Registrar Filter: Quickly narrow down your view to domains registered with specific registrars (e.g., Namecheap, Cloudflare, GoDaddy).
Category Tagging
Assign custom, color-coded tags to your domains to keep things organized. You can easily group domains by project, client, or purpose (e.g., prod, dev, marketing, parked).
3. One-Click Diagnostics & Auto-Enrichment
The core strength of Domainatrix is its automated enrichment engine. When you click Enrich on any domain, the application executes multiple background checks and populates your database with detailed diagnostics.
Diagnostic Fields Captured
- WHOIS Details: Retrieves registrar, registration date, last update date, expiration date, registrant email, and official registry status codes.
- DNS Records: Automatically queries and displays vital DNS records, including:
- NS (Name Servers)
- MX (Mail Exchangers)
- TXT (Text records, often used for verification)
- A & AAAA (IPv4 and IPv6 target addresses)
- SSL Certificate Status: Connects directly to the domain's server over TLS to extract the SSL certificate issuer (e.g., Let's Encrypt), validation status, and remaining days of validity.
- Network Geolocation: Resolves the target IP to find its physical location, including the country, city, ISP, and organization hosting the site.
4. Uptime Monitoring & Performance
Domainatrix tracks your websites' availability in real-time, allowing you to ensure they remain accessible to your users.
Uptime Activity Grid
On the domain details page, a 12-week GitHub-style grid shows the results of recent uptime checks.
- Each block represents a check window.
- Hovering over a block displays the exact timestamp and response latency in milliseconds.
- The overall average uptime percentage is displayed in the header.
Expiry Rings
Beside the activity grid, two circular progress rings visually track the remaining time before your domain registration and SSL certificate expire.
Core Web Vitals (CrUX)
If a CRUX_API_KEY is configured, a performance panel will load. This retrieves real-world user metrics from the Google Chrome UX Report, visualizing:
- LCP (Largest Contentful Paint): Loading performance.
- CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift): Visual stability.
- INP (Interaction to Next Paint): Responsiveness.
5. Subdomain Discovery
Identify all active subdomains under a primary domain to verify DNS hygiene and find hidden services.
Domainatrix combines two powerful techniques for discovery:
- Certificate Transparency Logs: Queries the public
crt.shlogs for certificates issued to subdomains. - DNS Wordlist Probing: Concurrently checks a built-in list of common subdomain prefixes (e.g.,
dev,staging,api,mail) to see if they resolve to an active IP address.
Once discovered, all subdomains are listed with their status (Live or Unresolved), IPs, and the method by which they were found.
6. Notification Center & Logs
Stay updated on critical changes in your portfolio. All events are logged in the app and can be pushed to your active communication channels.
- Change Detection: Whenever a domain is scanned (manually or by cron), Domainatrix compares new results against the database. If there is a change in the IP address, DNS records, registrar, or SSL configuration, an event is logged.
- Uptime Alerts: If an uptime check fails (or recovers), an alert is generated.
- Expiry Reminders: Generates alerts when domains or certificates are 30, 14, 7, and 1 days away from expiring.
- External Integration: Delivers alerts to Discord, Slack, or Email (SMTP). If a network issue prevents delivery, you can retry from the Notification Center.
